Pair of European Oak 5 Bar Gates

Our traditionally jointed and crafted gates are made in our own carpentry workshops using generations old, tried and tested techniques for seriously long life and traditional good looks.

Both of these gates are a 1200mm high at the top of the stiles. Each set comes with two identical 5 bar gates at your chosen size. The symmetrical nature of these gates means you can hang the main gate on any side you wish.

We offer both a standard size bottom rail or a 75x75mm reinforced bottom rail for additional strength should you require a gate for automation purposes.

All the oak used in our gate manufacturing, is home grown or European. It is planed all round and fixed with quality long life fixings and traditional joints.

As with all traditionally crafted oak products for external use there will be a risk of some movement once in position, this in itself cannot be regarded as a manufacturing defect and will not harm the integrity of the gates in any way; it should only add to the character. Longer gates will usually be laminated for ultimate stability. 

This particular listing is for a pair of standard field gates but please remember we can make any bespoke gate you wish and driveway gates are a speciality.

We recommend that you use suitable hinge straps for these gates, a general rule of thumb is for the hinge to be at least 1/3 the width of the gate.

Notes

Please allow for 10mm between the gate and the gate post, as well as in the middle where the two gates join.

Due to the inherent variability of materials used in crafting timber field and entrance gates, some natural movement, such as warping or twisting of the wood, may occur as the gates weather. This is a normal characteristic of timber and should not be viewed as a flaw or regarded as a defect as it does not affect the gate’s durability. When properly installed, the adjustable hinges, latches, centre gate stop, and drop bolts are designed to keep the gates aligned, clear of the ground, and adjustable to accommodate any natural shifts in the wood.
